The 27th Meeting of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) will be hosted by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore during February 18-20, 2009. Scientific sessions will be held at the Institute Auditorium situated inside the IIA campus. Chair of the Scientific Organising Committee (SOC) is H.C. Bhatt (IIA, Bangalore), and Convenor of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) is G.C. Anupama (IIA, Bangalore).
The meeting is open to all ASI members, as well as Researchers and Students in Astronomy & Astrophysics or related areas, affiliated to Research Institutions/Universities/Colleges.
The Scientific Meeting will consist of:
- Invited talks
- Oral presentations on recently submitted Ph.D theses
- Contributed papers, to be displayed as posters
- Rapporteur talks and question-and-answer sessions on the poster papers
A pre-ASI amateur Astronomers event
will be held on 17th
feb. 2009 at the Bangalore Planetarium.

A parallel session on FORSA (Forum for Resource Sharing in Astronomy and Astrophysics) will be held on 19th and 20th February.
The space available for each poster is 70 cm x 100 cm (width x height), which can fit A1 Size posters.
A Laptop (WINDOWS) is available for Oral presentations, which may be brought on a pen drive or CD in Microsoft Powerpoint or a PDF format. OHP facility is available only for regular paper. Speakers are requested to load their presentations in advance.
It is planned to publish the papers presented at the ASI 2009 as a special issue of the Bulletin of the Astronomical Society of India, after a refereeing process. Instructions on submission of papers will be announced during the meeting, and will also be available on these pages.
Best Poster Awards (one in each category) and Best Thesis Presentation Award will be presented based on the posters and thesis presentations made during the meeting.
