100 Hours of Astronomy |
100 Hours of Astronomy is one of the cornerstone projects managed by the IYA2009 international node. The planned activities include live webcasts from research observatories, public lectures, field trips involving night sky watching etc. IIA's Himalayan Chandra Telescope participated in one such global event named 'Around the World in 80 Telescopes', that took place on 3-4 April 2009. The occasion was marked by a live webcast from these telescopes that was viewed by millions of people all over the world.
- As a part of '100 Hours of Astronomy' IIA had also organized a sky-watch programme for public at Lalbagh, Bangalore on 4th and 5th April. About 500 people from all walks of life viewed the Moon and
Saturn through 6-inch and 14-inch telescopes stationed at the rocky hillock in Lalbagh after dusk.
