    Ajith S.Padmanabhan II M.Sc(Physics) of RKM Vivekananda college, Chennai has been selected bythe Space Generation Advisory Council (an NGO coordinating with the UNESCO for IYA2009) to attend the launch ceremony of International Year of Astronomy on 15-16 Jan 2009 at Paris, France. He is also invited to participate in International Astronomical Union symposium on "Role of Space in Society and Culture" between 19-23 Jan 2009 at Paris.
    Ajith was one among the two selected from all over the world based on an essay competition. Ajith has been in regular contact with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. He did a summer project at Kavalur during his undergraduation and later worked on "Wavefront detections using Raman-Nath effect" at the institute's CREST campus at Hosakote. He had also participated in the "Universalizing the Universe" programme held on 4th April 2008. He had earlier been selected as Best Post graduate student delegate by the ISRO at the International Astronautical Congress-2007.
