REQUIREMENTS FOR HANDS-ON SESSIONS

For the hands-on session that would deal with the data analysis, web-based tools shall be used. The participants shall use the tools to make measurements from images and movies on the web (e.g., https://cdaw.gsfc.nasa.gov/CME_list) and generate science-ready data. For analyzing the data, Python software shall be used. Participants shall be given instructions beforehand to install the Python code on their laptops. Instructions will be provided for various platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux). One of the SOC members shall interact with the participants.

The participants are expected to bring their own laptops. This would be useful because they can use the installed software after they return to their homes / institutions. The minimum hardware requirements (CPU, RAM, disk space, etc.) shall be discussed among the lecturers and organizers before the meeting and shall be communicated to the participants in advance. The organizers would like to inform the participants that they need to have installed a running version of Python in their laptops. However, the topics shall be discussed in detail before the commencement of the workshop, and that the students shall properly be informed of the tools they need to install in their laptops and be able to work on the data during the workshop.

The organizers shall carefully discuss these (and any other similar) questions with the lecturers before the workshop, and the selected students would be instructed accordingly, including all necessary information and tutorials on installation of the right software, through the website. The organizers shall keep few desktops available for those who cannot bring their own laptops. All the required software shall be installed in those desktops as well.
