Final announcement

We are finalizing the preparations for the Evershed Meeting that will begin on 2nd December, 2008 at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, India. We have about 125 participants. We look forward to welcoming you in Bangalore in a few days time.

In this final announcement, please pay attention to several important issues that are enumerated below.

Science Programme:

  • A current version of the Scientific Programme along with the abstract book is available here (click on this link).
  • Poster presentations are indexed with science session designations, and are listed by P. Posters will be available for viewing throughout the meeting in the ground floor lounge. The space available for each poster is 70 cm x 100 cm (width x height), which can fit A1 Size posters. On the poster boards you will find your name and poster number. Please post your poster at the place reserved for you.
  • We will also have arrangements for electronic media displays along with projection system. In case you want to display results with your laptop, please contact us before the meeting, until 1st December. Please check the list of abstracts (from the pdf file) to find your poster number.


Logistics:

  1. We have arranged for a half-day local sightseeing tour of Bangalore for Monday, 1st December 2008 (pick up 1.00 PM). This is a free tour, if you are interested please send an email to the LOC.
  2. Welcome reception: 1st December 2008, 7.00 PM, Venue: Bhaskara Building. Please report to Institute campus.
  3. The Conference Banquet: 4th December. Transportation will be arranged to the venue.
  4. Accommodations: We have booked accommodations (according to prior payments and bookings) in the following hotels. You can check your bookings by clicking on individual links. If you have any doubts get back to us as soon as possible. The locations and contact numbers of these hotels are available from the website. One can go directly to the hotel to check in.

  6. Arrivals:
    1. From the Bangalore City Railway Station:
      About 10 Km; the route is via Hudson Circle- Shanthi Nagar- Hosur Road- St. John's Medical College - Koramangala.
      Participants arriving by train are advised to use the pre-paid autorickshaw service available at the city railway station. The destination is ‘Koramangala water tank’. The expected fare is about Rs.100/-. Beyond 10 PM or before 6 AM, the fare could be double this amount.

    2. From the Bangalore Bus Stand:
      The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operates bus services from Subhash Nagar bus stand (opposite the City Railway Station) to Koramangala. The route numbers are 171, 171H (Blue Colour Buses), J171, 171 (Pushpak Service). BMTC also operates buses from Shivajinagar to Koramangala and the numbers are 166, 164.
      You will have to alight at the ‘Koramangala water tank’ bus stop, cross the road in order to reach IIA. Here again the participants may make use of the auto rickshaw services available at all the exit points. The expected fare is about Rs.100/-. Beyond 10 PM or before 6 AM, the fare could be double this amount.

    3. From the Bangalore International airport:
    Here are the options:
    • Vayu Vajra bus services.
      These are Red colored A/c VOLVO buses. Board the bus BIAL – 7 (bound for Koramangala). The tickets can be purchased from the conductor after you board the bus. You have to alight at ‘Koramangala water tank’ stop. Cross the road to reach IIA. Our volunteers at the gate will help you to reach your accommodation place. The fare is Rs.150/- and you have to pay in Indian rupees ONLY.
    • Easy Cab taxi services.
      You can make use of this service to reach directly to your hotel. These are white / green colored cabs and the fare is about Rs.750/- to Koramangala. The destination that you should ask for is ‘Koramangala'. In case you find it difficult please come to IIA campus, our volunteers at the gate will help you to reach your accommodation place. Here again, you have to pay the fare in Indian rupees ONLY.

    Important points to note:

    • We strongly urge the international participants to carry out the exercise of Indian currency exchange at their point of embarkation itself.
    • Our volunteers with sign boards (Indian Institute of Astrophysics) will be near the airport exit passage area on the night of 30th November (1st December early hours) (ONLY) to help the participants board their desired mode of travel.
    • Note that it is a 4-way main road junction near the Koramangala water tank. IIA and the water tank are at the opposite corners of the junction.
    • Hotel Nandhana Grand, Case de Bengaluru, St.John’s Medical college guest house – all the accommodation places are at a walking distance from IIA.

Weather in Bangalore:
The weather in early December is usually very pleasant in Bangalore, with warm, sunny days and cool nights.

Proceedings:
The proceedings will be published by Springer as a volume in the ASSP (Astrophysics and Space Science Proceedings) series. All articles will be Peer Reviewed. Deadline for Receiving the manuscripts : January 5, 2009. Editors : S. S. Hasan , R. Rutten. The style files are available at the website.
