Apart from solar physics, I am also interested in the following topics. Interested ones can contact me for further details.
Visual Neuroscience
I am independently pursuing a project on visual neuroscience and image processing techniques. Receptive fields are the building blocks of perception. The experiment to map receptive fields was first done on Cat's visual cortex. D.H Hubela and T.N Weisel shared nobel prize with Roger W. Sperry in medicine for this Nobel prize winning experiment . See, the following video to know about this experiment and to understand what Cat taught us about perception.

Apart from this, I am also interested in understanding the physical mechanisms that cause optical illusions. For example, Irradiance illusion, Hermann grid illusion , Poggendorff illusion etc.
Behavioural Neuroscience and Psychology
Behavioural neuroscience is the study of human behaviour. Humans do the same things the animals do but in a different and ingenious way. I am interested in this subject not because i want to understand others but I want to understand myself. See, the following video on "Still Face" experiment performed by Dr. Edward Tronick which shows the effect of psychological stress on babies.

Bioinformatics: Finding hidden messages in DNA
DNA replicates at the time of cell division. There are billion base pairs in DNA, where in the DNA the replication starts? Fortunately, the location of start of replication is hidden in DNA itself. Computationally, it is a daunting task. The origin of replication happens at the location of most frequent k-mers (base pair sequences of length k), which can be solved computationally. I have written a python program which will identify a string of bases of a given length and their locations. It is important to identify these locations because these locations can be targeted by the medicines to arrest the replication of DNA, which in turn will arrest the growth of the target organism.

Human Microbiome
The Human microbiome (microbiota) is the collection of all microorganisms that live in association with the human body. Total bacterias in human body are ten times more than human cells. As the civilisation progressed, we gradually started destroying them by adopting unnecessary hygienic lifestyle and overuse of antibiotics. If this symbiotic relationship is destroyed, it may give rise to several disorders. Please read this article about human food project for further details. Several researches have suggested the link between gut microbes and auto-immune diseases. Some of those diseases are Ankylosing Spondilytis, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) etc. Click here to know more about it. The human microbiota is now believed to be responsible for obesity, allergies and even depression (click here to read about it). See the following inspiring video about human microbiota by Dr. Rob Knight.

Fractals and Chaos
"The Fractal geometry of nature" written by Mandelbrot received widespread attention due to its myriad application from science to Hollywood (animation industry). Main property of fractals is self-similarity at different scales. Fractals are ordered at different spatial scales. On the other hand chaos is a branch of mathematics where future can not be predicted with absolute certainty. A true random process is one example of a chaotic process where the outcome at next instant is uncertain. A white noise is one such example of random process. Can a random process give rise to ordered structures like fractals? Yes they can, provided a constraint is given. See the following video, in which I have created a Sierpinski triangle by generating random numbers between 1 to 6 with one constraint. The IDL script is available on request.
