- Kinematics of CMEs in cycle 23 and 24
Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are huge plasma and magnetic field eruptions that originates from solar atmosphere and propagates into heliosphere. CMEs are the main drivers of space-weather. An earth impacting CME can disrupt the satellite communication, thus it becomes imperative to understand the kinematics of CMEs. In this project we try to understand the kinematics of CMEs over a period of 22 years. We try to understand if the solar cycle has any effects on the severity of CMEs generated during that cycle. This study will have implications on the future space-weather.
- Dynamics of coronal rain
Coronal rains are the blobs of cool plasma that are formed at the timescales of few minutes in solar atmosphere and fall back to the chromosphere following loop like paths. Condensation of plasma happens in coronal loops via a process called, catastrophic cooling. In this project we study the dynamics of coronal rain combining several existing space based missions. We will estimate the time scale of condensations and energy.
- Oscillations in open magnetic structures
Waves carry the information of the ambient medium in which they travel. Similarly, MHD waves carry the information of the ambient plasma. Estimating the properties of MHD waves, one can estimate the property of the ambient plasma. In this project we find the signatures of waves in open magnetic structures. It's quite puzzling how these structures support MHD waves. We will carry out the magnetic-seismology to estimate the magnetic fields.
