PHOTONICS LAB
Facilities for large optics fabrication upto a diameter of 2.5 m are presently available. Already optics for 2.3M mirror for the Vainu Bappu Telescope has been fabricated and installed in the year 1985.
The optics for the LIDAR telescope VSSC, Trivandrum, and EUV spectrohelio meter telescope (Space quality) were fabricated at Photonics division. Facilities for the fabrication of large and small optics, aspherics and spheroidal mirrors, X-ray Optics and Metal mirrors are quite adequate. Clean room facility of class 10000 I available for the fabrication of space optics. An optics cannot be fabricated with better accuracy than with which it could be tested. A full fledged Optical Metrology Laboratory facilitates the testing of high precision optics. A vertical testing tower of 15M height for testing long radius of curvature mirror and 1.2M F/1.45 high accuracy spherical mirror for auxiliary testing are some of the facilities available in the campus.
