Activities from Merak, Pangong Lake

We will be observing the venus transit using the DFM telescope setup at Merak. Earlier we used this setup for Gband observations. These observations are described in IIA Technical report series (Vasantha Raju et. al, 2012). We found that the contrast of the features in the sun are degraded in the images. One of the major contributing factor is the scattering within the telescope. When we observe the venus transit, we can get the intensity as a function of spatial of the Venus. At the center of Venus disk, ideally it should go to zero since it is opaque. Any residual intensity is due to the scattered light. Thus we can determine the scattered light. This method was used to get the scattered light from transit of mercury in 2003 from Trace satellite observations. Using the model one can correct for the scattered light in the image and this procedure will enhance contrast of the images.
