- A study of the evolution of bulges and disks of spiral galaxies in interacting and isolated environments
- Research Interest
I am interested in the formation and evolution of disk galaxies and the effect of the environment in shaping galaxies kinematically and morphologically. I am also interested in the cosmic evolution of galaxies and large-scale structures.
In my PhD thesis, I have worked on the evolution of bulges, disks, and spiral arms in the fly-by interaction of disk (spiral) galaxies using numerical simulations. I quantified the formation of spirals, disk thickening, bulge heating, and the origin of wave-like breathing motion in the Milky Way. I have also worked on the evolution of bars, the formation of BPX bulges via bar buckling and their evolution in non-spherical dark matter halos. In one of my works, I have touched upon observational galaxies and studied the growth of the disk-like bulges over cosmic time since redshift z=0.1 using SDSS DR7 galaxies.
I am currently working on the Illustris TNG50 cosmological simulation data product to understand why some observational galaxies do not have bulges and whether the TNG50 galaxy formation model can produce observed characteristics of bulgeless galaxies.- Supervisor
