At the Hanle Dark Sky Reserve all three parties, namely Union Territory Administration represented by the Department of Wildlife Protection, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, and Indian Institute of Astrophysics play crucial roles in its management and operation, along with the local communities.
UT Administration:
- Policy Decisions: The UT Administration is responsible for making necessary policy decisions for the operationalization of various components related to the HDSR.
- Financial Support: It provides financial support for the implementation of the Light Management Plans, which aims to control light pollution in and around the Hanle Village and also for procuring the telescopes which were distributed to the Astronomy Ambassadors
- Support for outreach and publicity: The UT Administration lends financial support for various outreach events and for publicity and promoting HDSR.
- Tourism Facilitation: It facilitates sustainable tourism in and around the HDSR through the implementation of various policies and notifications. Improvement of local infrastructure is also being planned.
LAHDC Leh
- Community Representation: LAHDC represent the community of Hanle and thus plays a crucial role in voicing their concerns and interest in the management of the HDSR.
- Cooperation and Support: LAHDC provides cooperation and support for the implementation of the Light Management Plan, contributing to efforts to reduce light pollution.
- Revenue Collection: It is responsible for collecting revenue generated through user charges, entry fees, and other means within the HDSR.
- Project Implementation : LAHDC assists and extends necessary cooperation acquired for the successful implementation o fthe project, ensuring smooth cooperation and adherence to objectives.
