Research Experience for School Students - RESS Program
RESS is a unique week long school in summer for school students in classes 10 and 11 in Bengaluru, where they undertake an astronomy project with a IIA staff member based on calculations and graphing done primarily by hand. Following a successful RESS 2023, the announcement for 2024 will be released soon.

A Day with an Astronomer - Job Shadowing Program
In this program, we invite selected students in 9th and 11th standards to spend a day or two with a mentor from IIA, to get an exposure to what a typical work day of a researcher is like. They are encouraged to ask questions and understand what the researcher and their team are doing through the day. JS 2024 is currenly underway.
In collaboration with the NGO IT for Change and the Education Department of the government, a series of talks by IIA staff was organised in two B.Ed. colleges in the city, whereby concepts in astronomy were used to teach physics while using online tools and demonstrations. This series will continue in every semester.

Panchayati Raj
We are working with the Rural Libraries network run by the Panchayat Raj department of the Govt. of Karnataka to promote astronomy in rural areas through these libraries and in Kannada.
A comprehensive and annotated e-library of freely available astronomy related multimedia material (posters, videos, podcasts, articles, etc) in Kannada has been collated and sent to the libraries for use in their computer labs.
Information in Kannada on upcoming naked-eye astronomy events is created in the form of posters, audio messages, etc, and are sent to the entire library network for dissemination.
A few in-person astronomy events including slideshows and telescope observations, have been organised through the IIA COSMOS-Mysuru program in a couple of rural libraries in person.
We are planning to ramp up our interaction with the libraries in the coming months.
