Nucleosynthesis, chemical evolution of the Galaxy, Stellar Archaeology, Stellar Spectroscopy

Research Interest (s) : My primary research interests are in the origin and evolution of elements in stars. In particular, I am interested in the nucleosynthesis of low and intermediate-mass stars and the role of these stars in the Galactic chemical enrichment. I use spectroscopy for chemical composition studies of stars belonging to different evolutionary stages in addition to stellar and Galactic chemical evolution models for abundance interpretation. Our studies on metal-poor stars, in particular the CH and Carbon-enhanced metal-poor (CEMP) stars, are focused at better understanding the origin and evolution of heavy elements produced by neutron-capture nucleosynthesis. We use elemental abundance ratios as diagnostics to unravel the progenitors of these stars and complement these studies by parametric model based analysis. However, the nature of the stars that produced heavy elements in the early Universe is still very uncertain. We use abundance ratios of certain key elements to characterize the now invisible AGB companions of CEMP binaries. My other research interests are in the field of pulsating stars, A/F type Kepler hybrid stars, eclipsing binaries and hydrogen deficient carbon stars. I am a member of the international Science Development Team (TMT-ISDT), science team member of Maunakea Spectroscopic Explorer, and National Large Optical Telescope (NLOT).
