Observations and Modeling of Solar activity, MHD Simulations, Space-Weather

Research Interest (s) : I am solar astrophysicist with a specific research interest in solar eruptions. Large scale eruptions are referred as coronal mass ejections (CMEs) that are generally accompanied by intense flares. These events occur from the so-called active regions with strong localized magnetic field. The physics that explains the complex interplay of magnetic field and plasma in the active regions has the fundamental importance in the field of magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) which is the central subject in the solar eruptions. My research works quest for the questions how these events trigger and what mechanism drives them. On this line, my research interests on solar eruptions include flux rope formation and CME initiation, Sun-Earth connection of flux rope CMEs, quasi-static evolution of the AR magnetic structure and topological study, data-driven MHD simulations of the AR magnetic structure and the global Sun. Photospheric magnetic field observations and coronal imaging information from both space and ground-based telescopes are being utilized. I am also part of the science working group for the payload Visible Emission Line Coronagraph onboard the upcoming ADITYA-L1 space science mission.
