With an objective to encourage scientific temper and excellence in research done in India, Prof. Peraiah Foundation has instituted a recognition in the form of a Lecture, at intervals of two years. This recognition identifies upcoming researchers within the country who have done outstanding work in the field of Theoretical Astrophysics. Dr.Tirthankar Roy Choudhury (NCRA, TIFR); Dr. Shravan Hanasoge (TIFR, Mumbai); and Dr. Archana A. Pai (IIT Mumbai) and Dr. Dibyendu Nandi (IISER, Kolkata), jointly were the selected researchers in 2019; 2021; and 2023 respectively.
Nominations of the best suited upcoming researchers for Prof. Peraiah Foundation Lecture 2025 are invited from the Theoretical Astrophysicists with outstanding achievements, age up to 50 years as on the nomination date, and working in India. The format for the nomination is:- Name, affiliation, e-mail address, date of birth, academic qualifications, major scientific achievements on which the nomination is based, a brief CV, list of publications, reprints relevant to the recommendation, a very brief citation of relevance, and any other information pertaining to the scientific excellence of the nominee. The letter of nomination with name, designation, and e-mail address of the proposer with date has to be enclosed.
The nominations may be made by heads of institutions, directors of observatories, heads of departments or individual senior scientists world-wide. Each nomination, including all the supporting documents (as a single pdf file), should be sent by e-mail to peraiahfoundationaward@iiap.res.in, by the deadline of 31st March, 2025 (Monday). Prof. Peraiah Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promote and encourage Astrophysics research in general and Theoretical Astrophysics in particular within the country, and have a MoU with IIA, Bengaluru for organizing the Prof. Peraiah Foundation lecture. The recipient receives a prize and a citation, which is given away at the lecture organized by the Foundation at IIA, Bengaluru, during which the recipient is required to deliver a technical lecture on the scientific work carried out by the recipient.

Call for Applications/Nominations for Appointment to the post of Director, IIA Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru, an autonomous grant-in-aid institution of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India invites applications from highly motivated professionals, who are Indian nationals, for the position of Director. Those who are dynamic leader with substantial experience and achievements in the area of Astronomy & Astrophysics and with a clear vision for an established Institution dedicated to this field of research in the country may apply for the post.
Applications received in response to this advertisement as well as nominations received from eminent fellows of prestigious national science and engineering academies, Directors of national R&D laboratories and Vice-Chancellors of universities will be considered by a Search-cumSelection Committee. Based on the recommendations of the Search-cum-Selection Committee, the Director will be appointed after obtaining the approval of the Competent Authority.
The incumbent will be appointed on Direct Recruitment/Deputation including contract/Re-employment basis for a period of 3 to 5 years or on attaining the age of superannuation (60 years at present), whichever is earlier.
Pay scale: Pay Level 15 HAG Scale (Rs. 1,82,200- 2,24,100) plus admissible allowances as per 7th CPC.
